Light and Momentary: An Account of Suffering and Joy
It started with an itch in my left forearm. I thought it would go away; it didn’t. Then came numbness in my fingers and toes, then electrical sensations, and then pain.
It was the start of line of strange symptoms that led me to try to discover what was wrong. No doctor could tell me what was happening. After two years of searching for a diagnosis, I applied to the Undiagnosed Disease Network, was accepted, and traveled to the NIH in Bethesda MD for a week of tests. Six months later I was told the diagnosis - what my wife and I found frightening: Fahr’s (PFBC).
This has been one of the best things that has happened to me – and no, I am not crazy. This books is about the first symptoms, the search for a diagnosis my struggles and lessons. It has been a very hard road; it’s been a good road. Some things in life we don’t get to choose but they are intended by the Lord for a greater purpose. For Those Who Suffer: 52 Passages on Suffering from the Bible
What if when suffering, when a person sought God, all resolved overnight? What if the message of Jesus was that suffering was for evil people? What if suffering wasn’t in the Bible? What if there was no mourning or lament? What if the Bible says if you are suffering, there is something spiritually wrong with you? What if it gave simplistic platitudes that we should just be good people, do what is right, and all would be fine.
But suffering is there – from Joseph to Job to Jesus: entire books on the topic, Psalms of lament, examples of those who did well in suffering and those who did poorly. It teaches us wisdom. It’s there for a reason: God knew we would need it.
You may have been surprised by suffering suddenly thrust on you or have seen it coming and trembled. You may suffer because someone you love suffers. The Bible is full of help and hope for us in our suffering.
This book is for sufferers; this book is for everyone. Get Paul's book: https://www.amazon.com/Those-Who-Suffer-Passages-Suffering-ebook/dp/B0CP7C96GZ If you would like to talk to Paul, let us know and we can put you in contact.
