Dan Urshan contacted us regarding a puppy after being referred by the LeBlancs whose family has had 4 dogs from us. Well, we got to visiting (imagine that!), and Dan told me he'd written a children's book about the lost & found true story of his family's beloved black lab, Duke. He sent us a copy of Where's Duke?. When I called to thank him, he shared that while on vacation with friends, he & his wife saw the C&W tribute duo, The Nashville Imposters. After the show, they were nearly the last to leave and struck up a conversation with the two performers. Turns out, one of the guys, Ralph Wayne Curtis, is a singer/songwriter and has written dozens of songs. As they were talking, Dan told him about his book, Where's Duke? and Ralph asked if Dan could send him a book. He did, and over many emails, Dan and Ralph co-wrote the song below! WHERES DUKE ? A true story about a boy and his dog. Writers: Daniel Urshan & Ralph Wayne Curtis https://youtu.be/az39qDEPwBQ?si=YGVLvVTnYHeN8Z_0 Dan LOVES to share Duke's story! Dan is also accepts invites to read Where's Duke? to your group. He told me at one reading, he explained that Duke was the 'last pick' of the litter. He then asked the kids (telling them not to raise hands), "Have you ever been the last one chosen for a game at recess?".... He then related it to Duke and how being picked last does NOT define who you are. There is nothing wrong with being last pick and that 'last pick' is still very loved, valued and can be a "Superdog" (what Duke was called by the family who found him). I found Dan's book, Where's Duke? to be a pleasure to read (I DID tear up a little). It's a well-written little book that would be a wonderful addition to any home or public library. Contact author Dan Urshan to get a copy ... or more... to share with family & friends. Maybe you could even use this story/book to promote some kind of fundraiser for your local animal shelter! 218-391-5999 danurshan@gmail.com Proceeds go to providing books for classrooms. Here is the cover and 2 page peeks! And more info in his book.
